Renewable energy in the US has surged to unprecedented levels,with the combined power generated by solar,wind and geothermal more than tripling over the past decade,according to a new report by a network of state environmental groups.
The growth has slashed harmful greenhouse gas emissions,made the nation’s energy system more resilient and prevented thousands of premature deaths from power plant pollution,according to the report by Environment America.
But this progress faces increasing resistance as Donald Trump in his first 15 weeks in office has begun to dismantle federal policies and spending aimed at easing the climate crisis.
It’s all happening at a time of heightened concern among environmentalists.Despite an international accord to lower greenhouse gas emissions,the atmosphere now contains record levels of heat-trapping gases.All 50 states have warmed since the first Earth Day in 1970,according to a new analysis by Climate Central,an independent non-profit group that researches and disseminates information about the climate crisis and its effects.

House Republicans are calling for billions of dollars in funding cuts for Biden-era climate and environmental programs,including clean energy tax credits,as lawmakers seek to reverse what one GOP leader called“the most reckless parts of the engorged climate spending”approved under former President Joe Biden.
Environmental groups warned the proposals would pave the way for more oil and gas industry activity on public lands and increase planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
The House committees on Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means are set to discuss the plans Tuesday as part of the so-called budget reconciliation process.Several moves are aimed at clawing back billions in spending authorized by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act,a Democratic measure intended to slow climate change and boost clean energy such as wind and solar power.

With rainforests,waterfalls,volcanoes and hot springs,the Caribbean Island of Dominica's dramatic landscape is a haven for adventure-seeking ecotourists.
It attracted 83,966 visitors last year,a 13%rise from 2023,and led by new direct flights from the US,and the opening of more hotels.
Nicknamed the"Nature Island",and now recovered from the extensive damage caused by 2017's Hurricane Maria,Dominica's government is set to harness its natural resources to generate clean electricity for its 66,000 residents and tourism sector.
To end the country's long reliance on generators fueled by imported diesel,a geothermal power station is being built in the south of the country.It will access the boiling hot water contained in natural underground reservoirs that are heated by the surrounding volcanic rock.
The 10-megawatt plant,under construction near the village of Laudat in the lush Roseau Valley,is on track to become operational by the end of the year.
Steam will be drawn up to the surface to drive turbines that will generate electricity.The used steam will then be cooled to the point where it becomes water again,and reinjected back underground for the process to restart.

英国提议建设电池储能站点的计划
Plans for battery energy storage site proposed

Plans have been unveiled to house more than 100 batteries in storage containers on farmland near a Kent village.
Anglo Renewables has applied to Dartford Borough Council for planning permission for the energy storage facility in Greenhithe.
Documents submitted to the authority on 29 April said the renewables firm wants to build a battery energy storage system(BESS)off Bean Lane in Greenhithe.
It is not yet known when the planning committee will decide on the bid although a target deadline of 29 July has been set,while the public can comment on the plans until 30 May,reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The Major Blackout in Spain and Portugal Sparks a Debate on Power System Safety Europe's Energy Infrastructure is in Urgent Need of Upgrades

Three hours before the major blackout occurred on April 28th local time,parts of Madrid,Spain,issued a power quality warning,indicating that the power grid in some areas was unstable,with significant voltage fluctuations.At the time of the blackout,the Spanish power grid lost 15 gigawatts of electricity supply within seconds,equivalent to 60%of the power demand for the country’s 49 million residents.This directly led to widespread power outages in both Spain and Portugal,with cities such as Madrid,Barcelona,and Lisbon experiencing blackouts,affecting approximately 55 million people.The blackout lasted for over 16 hours,making it one of the most severe power outages in Europe in the past 20 years.On May 7th local time,Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez reported on the nationwide blackout that occurred on April 28th in the House of Representatives.In his report,Sanchez reviewed all the information related to the blackout to date,stating that the Spanish government is gathering information from a large amount of power system data and promised to thoroughly investigate the matter and hold those responsible accountable.It is worth noting that Sanchez emphasized that the blackout would not affect the Spanish government’s efforts to achieve its climate goals of net-zero emissions.

Iran Plans to Develop Solar Energy to Address Power Shortages
面对日益严重的电力短缺问题，伊朗正致力于推动发展太阳能发电，以改变该国能源结构单一、易受能源短缺影响的现状。
据伊朗德黑兰地区电力公司负责人介绍，其已经与投资方达成相关协议，计划在德黑兰建设一座装机容量为3兆瓦的太阳能发电厂。与此同时，该公司还启动了在德黑兰地区建设可再生能源电厂的项目，预计总装机容量可达120兆瓦。

Faced with the increasingly severe problem of power shortages,Iran is committed to promoting the development of solar power generation to change the current situation of the country's single energy structure,which is vulnerable to power shortages.
According to the head of the Tehran Regional Electric Company in Iran,the company has already reached relevant agreements with investors and plans to build a 3-megawatt solar power plant in Tehran.At the same time,the company has also launched a project to build renewable energy power plants in the Tehran area,with an expected total installed capacity of up to 120 megawatts.
It is understood that although Iran has abundant oil and gas resources,it has suffered from power shortages in recent years.According to reports from Iran International Television,at the end of last year,50%of Iran's industrial parks had ceased operations due to power outages.The combination of outdated infrastructure,international sanctions,and poor management has led to the closure of about 80 power plants in Iran,causing huge losses due to power outages.
